Breastfeeding Support Program
The goal of the Breast Feeding Support Group is to promote healthy growth of infants through supporting mothers in breastfeeding.

The objectives are to:
  • Provide breastfeeding classes during the prenatal period.
  • Teach, encourage and support breastfeeding during hospitalization.
  • Offer support and education after discharge by offering open clinic times and scheduled individual appointments.
  • Provide free weight checks for all newborns.
  • Provide educational materials and assistance to physicians' offices.
  • Follow-up with patients to monitor success and offer supprot and encouragement.
  • Provide education and support to FBC staff for continuity in supporting and encouraging breastfeeding.
Clinic times are:
     Mondays from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
     Thursdays from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

Celiac Disease Support Group

The Logan County Celiac Support Group will meet Monday, June 14, 2010 at 6:30 p.m.  The meeting will be held at the Mary Rutan Hospital Crossroads Business Center located at 21 Hunter Place; Bellefontaine, OH.

Meetings are scheduled to be held the 2nd Monday of every month.

Diabetic Self-Management Education

Assuring high-quality education for patient self-care is one of our primary goals at Mary Rutan Hospital. Since 2000, Mary Rutan Hospital’s Diabetes Self-Management Education Program holds the distinction of being recognized by the American Diabetes Association to provide current, up-to-date self-management skills for the diabetic patients of our community. The participant in this program will have an individualized program designed for them to promote self-care skills that will assist in the improved management of his/her diabetes treatment plan. Diabetes Support Group

The diabetes support group is a free community service activity where the individuals with diabetes and /or family members of diabetics can gather to discuss various issues that can affect diabetics. Community CPR

Help save a life by taking CPR. All of our instructors are certified through the American Heart Association to provide hands-on classes. CPR classes are offered at Mary Rutan Hospital on a regular basis and can be scheduled individually for groups of 6 or more.

Description of CPR classes offered:

Healthcare Provider (HCP) class is recommended for nurses, physicians
and other health professionals or healthcare students

Heartsaver (HS) class is recommended for lay rescuers who have a duty to respond. Examples include daycare workers, teachers, coaches, and first responders.

Family and Friends classes are for anyone who wants to learn CPR, but does not have to have a course completion (certification) card. This class is especially good for new parents, grandparents and babysitters.

Heartsaver First Aid class is a separate class for adult and pediatric first aid. All first aid classes include CPR when participants do not have a current CPR card.

Family and Friends First Aid for Children are classes for anyone interested in learning about first aid especially grandparents, new parents and baby sitters.



Professional Education 

Continuing Education Seminars 

ACLS( Advanced Cardiac Life Support) classes are offered regularly throughout the year and provide hands on training in the recognition and management of newborn resuscitation. Based on the American Academy of Pediatrics and American Heart Association’s Guidelines this class focuses on the unique aspects of newborns and the difference in resuscitations of newborns versus older children and adults.

PALS( Pediatric Advanced Life Support) classes are offered regularly throughout the year in conjunction with Nationwide Children’s Hospital, Columbus Ohio. Taught by AHA instructors these classes provide hands on training in the recognition and management of life threatening pediatric emergencies.

Cardiac Classes

Basic EKG Classes prepare participants to interpret various cardiac rhythms, assess the effect on patients and management of the rhythm.

Cardiac Assessment Classes provide an in-depth review of the patient’s cardiovascular system.

ACS (Acute Coronary Syndrome) classes provide participants with an in-depth review in the recognition, diagnosis and management of acute coronary syndromes-Angina, non-STEMI and STEMI.

CHF (Congestive Heart Failure) classes provide information on the recognition, diagnosis and management of CHF.


Mary Rutan Hospital (OH-131, 04/01/2011) is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Ohio Nurses Association (OBN-001-91), an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on accreditation.

Mary Rutan Hospital (#1199) is a provider of EMS Credits through the Ohio Department of Public Safety’s Division of Emergency Medical Services. Approval expires 01/30/2011
